The New York Giants have had a lot of trouble in recent years with being a successful team. Loss after loss, losing record after losing record. The last time they made the playoffs was 2022, after a 6 year drought! However, with new rookie talent, things are starting to look up.
“You go through some tough times… I like our guys. These young players, I have a lot of confidence in these young players. These rookies. They have the right mindset. They’re tough.” Head Coach Brian Daboll said.
Daboll – after years of disappointment – seems to finally have good options. With Wide Reciever one and sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Malik Nabers being injured, we all assumed that all hope was lost for the once great team.
Then, along comes Jaxon Dart and Cam Skattebo.
In his past four games, Dart’s stat line has been exceptional: 703 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns, and 1 interception, with a passer rating of 87.8. He also added 58 rushing yards.
This means he has been throwing around 173 yards and 1 touchdown per game. Which is very solid for a rookie QB. It’s no Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes, but he is a strong and vital player for the Giants.
“I think Jaxson Dart provides them with more opportunities, and that he’ll be successful” says Kaitlin Schulz
Skattebo has also had a brilliant stat line for a second string Running Back: in his last 4 games he had a combined 296 rushing yards and 4 touchdownds. 3 of those touchdowns came from the Giant’s 34-17 victory against the reigning Super Bowl champions: the Philadelphia Eagles. Unfortunately, Skattebo is now sidelined with an injury, a tough blow for a team that was finally starting to find its rhythm.
Now, none of this is very surprising seeing as they were both incredible players in college. Dart being the floor general of an 11th ranked Ole Miss team. And Skattebo won Offensive Player of the Big Sky division when he played at Sacremento State, as well as having an exceptional season the year after at Arizona State.
However, the real question in all of this is:
After having a terrible 6 seasons with QB Daniel Jones, the Giants couldn’t have needed this more. So, will this momentum continue? Or will the Giants once again find themselves as one of the worst teams in the NFL.
