After paying a small fee of $75,000, the Met Gala attendees walked the green carpet of fashion.
This year’s Met Gala was themed “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” While the title’s notion proved inviting, the potential for flawed interpretation spurred Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour to specify the dress code was “The Garden of Time.”
The attendees this year interpreted the theme in unique ways, exploring sub-themes of timeless fashion, florals and hourglasses.
Some participants completely missed the mark by not dressing according to the motif. Others beautifully encapsulated “The Garden of Time.”
Here is a snapshot of the highs and lows of the green carpet this year:
Was Kim K’s raggedy cardigan a last minute fix to an outfit malfunction by Ryan Cahor or was it intentional? Either way, it’s offensive, especially as it was thrown over an otherwise beautiful dress.
Men should not be exempt from putting in effort. These outfits are lazy and do not exhibit the dress code by any means.
On a more positive note, Tyla’s Met Gala debut was nothing short of showstopping. Her hourglass mocking dress was constructed of real sand and microcrystals, remarkably portraying the time aspect of the dress code.
At first glance it just looked like an oversized wet tee shirt, but Doja Cat proved her outfit choice to be more than some random togs thrown on after a shower. She explained how her look paid homage to cotton, the most used flower. In fact she also fit the theme through the timeless effect of the white tee shirt.
Who am I to judge though? I wear sweatpants to school half the time.
