Abortion laws have been at the forefront for many Americans at such an important time. We’re in 2025, where Roe v. Wade is still overturned, and especially with the second Trump presidency currently in action, and the overturning of Roe v. Wade. MHS freshman Lily Dembrow said, ”I think Roe v. Wade being overturned was a huge mistake”
“I personally am a supporter of people having the right to choose, and I believe that the government shouldn’t have a say in what women can get an abortion or not,” Dembrow said.
Dembrow explained how the Dobbs decision caused a regression in women’s rights and explained how ultimately this administration is failing to protect bodily autonomy.
“Roe v. Wade being overturned definitely lost women rights, and in particular this administration seems to have little to no care about protecting them.” Dembrow said.
Dembrow explains now how religion has no place in politics:
“Religion absolutely should not be a reason to justify supporting banning abortion federally. It’s okay to be religious and practice any religion that you choose, however it should never be used as a justification to take away something many women need.”
When Dembrow was asked about the future of abortion laws and how they should be handled, she gave a clear answer.
“I believe abortion should be legalized in every state,” Dembrow said. Being pro-choice doesn’t mean you need to have an abortion. You can choose to keep the baby. It’s just you believe others should have a right to get one if they need.”
“Our generation and many other Americans need to realize that you personally don’t ever have to want an abortion. That’s okay and your choice. What is not okay is supporting an abortion ban and taking away healthcare and something that deserves to be protected to save lives.”
“Absolutely this has hurt women’s rights. This is a regressor and it is taking away needed healthcare. I pray in 2028 we get someone elected who legalizes abortion.” Dembrow explained.
