Montclair High School’s Dance Company, a group of 53 dancers led by professional dancer, teacher and choreographer Kamille J. King, stunned in “Reach,” the 2025 edition of the dance company’s annual show. The program ran from March 21 to 23.
The Mountaineer’s Jake Parker captured moments from the show’s most evocative and captivating moments below.
In her director’s note, King discussed the premise of the show’s theme, a “collection of narratives that span across time, cadence and artistic expression.” She described the show as an immersion of the “magic of storytelling” and “power of movement.” Such ideas were enthusiastically displayed by the dancers with wide varieties of dance genres, styles, and types of movement.
“Vulnerability, passion and unconventional[ity]”: King describes how she views her dancers’ expression through their “unwavering love for dance.”
The Company’s online program featured dancer and choreographer biographies, as well as friend and family dedications.
“Reach” featured music by Ludovico Einaudi, Yebba, Moby, Taylor Swift, Bon Iver, Philip Glass, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, and others.
Every year, the Company selects several members to choreograph and lead rehearsals for the show’s hip-hop finale, as well as a piece exclusively for senior dancers. The 2025 senior choreographers included Sophia SanGiovanni, Romy Preslar, Brynn Williams, Charlotte Bowe, Emilia Roncero, Delilah Tapper and Kennedy White.
The Dance Company at MHS has been around for over four decades. It was founded in 1977 and contributed to the high school’s recognition as a state Model School for the Arts in 2009.
