The Montclair Boys Soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the Seton Hall Prep Pirates this past Saturday in the Essex County Tournament Final at Milburn High School.
The game started off strong with great efforts from both teams. Montclair had a fantastic chance for a goal by Cole Caviness but it was nullified by an offside call.
The Mounties kept pushing with 3 corner kicks and a free kick right outside the box. Within the first 30 minutes of the game, with a long throw by Alexander Abrahams, Erol Gumus scored a brilliant goal putting Montclair up 1-0 by the end of the first half.
At the start of the second half, the Pirates took control. 10 minutes into the second half, they were able to score their first goal, tying the scoreboard with 30 minutes remaining. Not long after, a powerful kick resulted in SHP’s second goal.
Determined, Montclair fought, but there was nothing for them to do. The Mounties came out with an unfavorable result after a long intense game and accepted second place in the tournament.
