The Montclair High School Boys’ Basketball team got their fourth Super Essex Conference victory of the season this past Tuesday, January 3rd against rivals Glen Ridge.

After a First Round defeat in the Jingle Bells Jubilee Tournament, MHS was hoping to bounce back during conference play.

To start, both teams were mostly even on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. However, Montclair led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter. Glen Ridge came out of the break playing with energy as they were able to tie up the score at 16s but that did not last for very long. From that point, the Mounties outscored the Ridgers 16 to 6 and went into halftime with a 32-22 lead.

This momentum continued to provide fuel for Montclair on GR’s homecourt as they got up to 50 points by the end of quarter three. Their lead was also still secure at 16 points, the score being 50 to 34 MTC.

By the fourth quarter, it was all but over. A late three-pointer by junior, Tavis Graham was the final blow that sent the bench and student section into an eruption of excitement.

An amazing effort by the team on defense helped force plenty of Glen Ridge turnovers which really helped set the tone on offense with fast break points and offensive possessions as a whole being a key to this victory.

A massive round of applause for Coach Stinson and his players as they displayed outstanding tenacity throughout the game.

The final score was 69 to 47, a Montclair domination at Glen Ridge High School.

This loss for the Ridgers extends their rough start to the season. The teams’ record is now 1-7 and they are still seeking a win in the SEC. On the other hand, Montclair has now won two in a row after a consolation victory in the Jingle Bells Jubilee Tournament against West Orange which puts them at 5-2.

The boys’ next opponent is Belleville on Thursday, January 5th at HOME.
